I have experienced several dead zones in the Vienna area. One on Park St. at Tapawingo Road. Another on Beulah Road near Church St. My neighbor, who cares for an elderly handicapped spouse, must go outside her house to use the cell phone. It’s a safety issue.

I was raised in Vienna and now live in Fairfax City. My mother still lives in my childhood home in Vienna. I'm in the town often and am always stunned at how bad cell service is. Quite frankly it's embarrassing that an area with such wealth and so close to our Nation's capital has this type of “rural” problem. Please, please get this fixed for the sake of your citizens and visitors.

We are worried about cell phone reception on Beulah Road from Wolftrap Elementary to Clark’s Crossing, on the northern side of Vienna. How is it possible for one of the top towns in Virginia to have known dead zones all throughout? It is especially concerning for areas around schools. Please help us mitigate these risks by ensuring that reception is available throughout Vienna, VA.

It is well-documented that reliable cell service is critical to safety, especially in schools and places of worship. Staff, students, and others on campus must have the ability to call 911 for access to first responders in the case of an emergency. In the case of an emergency, it is just not realistic to run to another area of the school to call 911. Cell phones are also critical in emergency response situations when responders have to locate individuals inside facilities or find out where there is trouble.

Town of Vienna Moves Wireless Coverage Initiative Forward
The Town of Vienna continues to advance its effort to improve wireless coverage. The initiative began taking shape in late 2025, and on February 2, 2026, improving cellular coverage became one of the Town Council’s five priorities for the year.
Following work sessions in May and July, Town staff developed proposed changes to Vienna’s wireless regulations. The draft zoning language would allow towers up to 150 feet, establish administrative review for qualifying wireless infrastructure 50 feet or less, and update the Town’s regulations for consistency with Virginia law.
The Town is also considering how Town-owned property could be made available for wireless infrastructure deployment. The proposed zoning ordinance is expected to proceed to the Planning Commission for review and a public hearing, followed by a Town Council public hearing and vote.
